Why Pursue Graduate Studies at Tokushima University?

The main purpose of pursuing my graduate studies at Tokushima University is the type of research that is conducted at the university. I have a strong passion for science, especially the field of photonics, which is the study of light. During my time here at the university, I have had the privilege of meeting professors of various disciplines and learning new concepts thanks to their expertise. I would say they have made an impact on my life without a doubt. Outside of research, I believe that pursuing my studies here also gives me an opportunity to meet people from many walks of life! In Tokushima, I have been able to establish friendships with brilliant minds at the university and outside the university through academic conferences or local events. From local events, you can learn about Japanese culture, history, and be able to enjoy delicious Japanese foods!

Research and Career: Shaping My Future

Our lab’s research involves the fabrication and applications of microresonators, which are devices that have a small footprint. They are so small that many of these devices can fit onto one chip! Because of their small form factor, they can potentially be integrated into portable systems. The applications of these devices range from medical applications to astrophysics. Recently, artificial intelligence has become more prevalent and it has become a tool for various applications such as process automation, image processing, natural language processing, and so much more. With the use of these devices, these processes can be even faster and also consume less power compared to its electronic counterpart. Combining such powerful tools allows us to pave the way for future research into optical computing, a now-growing research field that focuses on accelerating computation speeds to a greater extent while reducing power consumption by using photonics.

A Message for Future Graduate Students

To all the future international graduate students at Tokushima University, we gladly welcome you and hope to see you join us at many school events! Think of it as an opportunity to network with others and to gain perspective on different cultures. By networking with others, you can also be able to share some thoughts or ideas and perhaps assist them in their endeavors as well. Additionally, it can open the door to many career opportunities at top companies or prestigious universities! For the ambitious individuals who want to become a Ph.D. student, when you become a Ph.D. student, you become a part of something bigger. You become a part of a team of pioneers that work on innovative research that can change the world for the better.

For a future where someone values my contributions.
